The Salthouse Hotel

SCC was appointed to provided full MEP design services for the new build Salthouse Hotel in Ballycastle. This is is a luxury eco hotel that has 24 bedrooms, 7 eco lodges, a luxury spa and an ocean view restaurant.

Electricity to the hotel is generated on site via a 225kW wind turbine and 150kW photovoltaic panels. Lighting throughout the hotel is provided via LED fittings and controlled by the Intelligent Building Management System (iBMS) to increase efficiency of the system.

The heating and hot water are primarily provided by air source heat pumps (ASHP). These provide a sustainable heat source for the hotel. Outside temperature sensors enables the building to adapt to its environmental conditions and heating in public areas comes on or turns off despite time schedules being set. This ensures that run time of the main plant is kept to a minimum and the systems are made as efficient as possible.

The Salthouse is equipped with a state-of- the-art Intelligent Building Management System (iBMS). This system has the ability to reduce the run time of all the main plant and hotel equipment. Control of bedroom radiators and electrical services are linked to the booking system in the hotel to ensure energy is not wasted when the room is not in use. Hotel staff monitor and control the energy efficiency of the building through a centralised dashboard available on hotel tablets, phones and desktop computers which provides energy reporting and evaluation from the iBMS.
