As part of our framework agreement with the Prince’s Trust, SCC was appointed for the MEP design and site support services of the new head office in Blackfriars, London. We were involved from concept to completion, even assisting the Trust in the purchase of the three-storey office space.

Heating and cooling to most spaces is via 4-pipe fan coil units. These are served from district heating and cooling plant with interface units provided throughout to allow billing and monitoring of energy use. Coupled with close control through the Building Energy Management System (BEMS) this provides a comfortable environment throughout the building that adjusts to occupancy along with internal and external conditions.

As part of these works, 8 office units were combined to make one space. This presented difficulties with service routes as the basement & ground floor were each 3 separate spaces sandwiched between landlord areas. Careful consideration was given to vertical and horizontal distribution. We could not cross into landlord spaces as these were the fire compartment walls to office and apartments above. To comply with the building’s strict fire strategy requirements, we placed all main electrical equipment at first floor level and fed down electrical risers in 4 locations.
